"The contention can be made that drawing forms the basis of Milan Grygar's work. In the mid-1960s, he made an important discovery with drawing. He stopped creating abstract paintings in 1963 and, after spending one and a half years searching for the sound equivalent of drawing, he came to understand how to use the specific noise emitted by a pen as it draws on the surface of the paper. This discovery was the impulse for a major shift in Grygar’s art. Starting in 1965, he fully devoted himself to acoustic drawings and performances connected to creating acoustic drawings. As a result, he transcended the limits of visual expression by expanding its potential to the realm of sound".
